In May 2023, Te Whare a new community-based alcohol and other drug and addiction service run by Te Kaika was opened in Dunedin.
What the service offers
Te Whare offers alcohol and other drug addictions services within and alongside an integrated site of health, social and educational services for all people.
Services are designed and delivered from a Te Ao Māori worldview and include one to one counselling and whānau support. The approach is inclusionary harm reduction within Māori centred models of relational care for tāngata whaiora with moderate to severe substance use issues and their whānau.
Whānau wellbeing is enhanced through an integrated workforce whakawhanaukataka and whakapapa connection. The Te Whare team support whānau to identify resiliency and protective factors that enhance their wellbeing.
