Pregnancy and babies

If you or someone you know is pregnant, there are people and resources available to help you prepare for the arrival of the baby and to provide support after baby is born.  We recognise that every mother and their whānau has individual health and cultural needs, and here in Southern our aim is to deliver maternity services to you close to home where possible and in a supportive, professional way.

Maternity care in New Zealand is funded by the government for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents and those who meet Ministry of Health eligibility criteria.

Information in the pages below will explain the different options and services available to you for each stage of your pregnancy journey, from finding a Lead Maternity Carer to help and advice for after baby goes home.
