Acute at Home Pathway

This content brought to you by:

The experience of Dunedin Hospital orthopaedic patients who can wait at home for their operation has improved thanks to the introduction of the Acute at Home Pathway.

To be eligible to go on the Acute at Home Pathway patients must meet criteria such as being otherwise fit and well, their pain is controlled, and they stay within 40 minutes of the hospital.

The pathway means that patients are given clear instruction so they are better informed and better prepared for surgery. They are telephoned by the perioperative liaison co-ordinator each morning before 10am and told if their surgery is scheduled that day, and if it is, they are given a time to come in for their operation.
