Trauma Recovery Aotearoa

    Men and Trauma in Partnership with Trauma Recovery Aotearoa is a nationwide service providing flexible, accessible, client-centred clinical and peer support to survivors of traumas, of all genders. 

    Our clinical team addresses the unresolved trauma driving the issues clients come to us with and any problematic behaviours they may also be experiencing such as:
    • Feeling like there's no-one who will understand you
    • Anxiety and Depression
    • Shame
    • Suicidal thoughts and behaviour
    • Out of control feelings, such as rage
    • Grief
    • Relationship problems
    • Affected by another's suicide
    • Addictions: behaviours you find it hard to control
    • Concern over the behaviour of loved ones
    Services offered include:
    • Counselling and Therapy: one-to-one
    • Peer Support: one-to-one
    • Peer Support Groups
    • Therapy Groups
    All our services are available in person, in Wellington, or online.

    10 Week Group Therapy for Male Survivors of Child Abuse (of any kind).

    A 10-week foundation programme for Male Survivors of Child Abuse.
    • This will help males understand themselves and their behaviours.
    • Tools will be provided to help with wellbeing and self-care.

    Anger Management: 10 week programme

    Music Therapy: 10 week programme

    Abuse and violence support services provide support to individuals and whānau who are impacted by abuse, violence or family harm.

    Family / whānau support
    Family / whānau support services provide support to improve the collective mental and/or physical wellbeing of the family / whānau.

    Provision of information, advocacy and programmes with a focus on supporting members of the rainbow community (LGBTQIA+) and their family/whānau.
    Pacific People
    Pasifika services providing community health and/or social support with a focus on health and wellbeing for Pacific peoples.
    Refugee / migrant support
    Providing information and support to refugees and migrants in Aotearoa/New Zealand.
    Sexual harm victims/survivors - Do you need help and support?
    Specialist support for victims and survivors of sexual harm.

    Elder abuse services support older people/kaumātua who have experienced harm or abuse.
    Harmful sexual behaviour
    Harmful sexual behaviour services provide specialist support for people who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviour or who have concerning sexual behaviour.
    Sexual harm - training, education, workforce development
    Provision of specialist training, education and support for those who work in the sexual harm sector.

    Charges

    Your finances won't be a barrier to support.
    Our regular peer support groups are free, koha appreciated.
    We ask each person to contribute what they can afford. You don't need to be embarrassed if you can't pay the full rate.
    We appreciate those who can afford to pay doing so to assist others to be able to receive support.
