Neurosurgery Service | Southern
Description
The Neurosurgery Service is a South Island regional service with two sites: Dunedin and Christchurch. The Neurosurgery Service provides specialist inpatient and outpatient services to patients who have surgical conditions of the central nervous system. The Neurosurgical Team provides specialist care to patients with trauma to the brain and spinal cord, haemorrhage and tumours of the brain and spinal cord. Elective surgery includes spinal surgery where there is nerve involvement.
An acute service for emergencies is provided 24 hours a day and non-urgent services are accepted from general practitioners according to access criteria which assist to prioritise urgency of the referral.
Outreach clinics are conducted at Southland Hospital, Dunstan and Oamaru hospitals.
