Wānaka After-hours Primary Care Service Location Announced

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora and Central Otago Health Services Limited (COHSL) are delighted to announce the location of the new after-hours primary care service in Wānaka opening in September.

The new service will be located at the Aspiring Enliven Care Centre on Cardrona Valley Road alongside the Wānaka Lakes Health Centre.

It will include two clinic rooms in a secure facility with accessible car parking. The location is an ideal choice with other clinical staff in close proximity in the event of an emergency.

This new nurse-led afterhours service will be available from 11pm to 8am seven days a week, with remote telehealth support provided by the Dunstan Hospital overnight senior doctor.

Hayley Anderson, Chief Executive Officer, Central Otago Health Services Limited is pleased to deliver this new service to the Upper Clutha community.

“I know how hard the community has been advocating for improved access to health care in Wānaka and alongside my Health NZ colleagues, I am proud we are able to support the community with this important afterhours primary care service. I look forward to our team working closely with our local Primary Care and Hato Hone St John colleagues from this central Wānaka location.”

“Recruitment for the Clinical Nurse Specialist roles is going well, and we are on track for a September opening date.”

James Reid, a director of the Aspiring Enliven Care Centre, is pleased to be able to offer support with a location for the COHSL new service.

“We understand firsthand the importance of having accessible primary care services close to home.  It complements our current aged care facilities, and we are excited to assist with a location so COHSL can deliver this much needed service to the Wānaka community.”

Cathy O’Malley, Te Waipounamu Group Manager System Integration, Health NZ agreed, saying “This is wonderful news for the community, and we are pleased to see planning on this important service is progressing well. This interim solution will assist with accessible urgent care while we work to define the broader models of care to be provided in the long-term, across the region.”

Further details including the opening date, fee structure and operating model will be shared in the coming weeks.
