Health providers team up to protect Queenstown
Health providers are teaming up to get the Queenstown community protected with a free two-day immunisation event for a range of serious illnesses.
The event will be held at Queenstown Events Centre on 22nd and 23rd November, with free vaccinations available to protect against COVID-19; influenza; measles, mumps and rubella (MMR); tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough; and human papillomavirus (HPV).
Everyone who receives a vaccination will also go into a draw to win gift baskets and food and fuel vouchers.
Run in partnership between Te Whatu Ora – Southern, WellSouth, Queenstown Medical Centre, The Doctors Whakatipu, The Village Medical Centre and Mountain Lakes Medical, the pop-up will provide the opportunity to discuss what vaccinations you are eligible for, as well as offering support to GP enrolment if required.
“Queenstown Lakes District has a high rate of visitor numbers and migrant workers, and with the borders now open there is an increased risk of serious illnesses like measles and COVID-19 circulating in the community,” Te Whatu Ora – Southern COVID-19 Manager Susan Moore said.
“Vaccinations are our best defence against severe illness, and the more of us who stay well, the less disruption we will see on our businesses, community and healthcare services.”
“This is a free, family-friendly event, but vaccine eligibility criteria does vary by vaccine type, so the vaccination team will be able to check what you are eligible for and discuss options with you,” Moore said.
You can check your eligibility in advance on the event webpage: www.southernhealth.nz/Queenstown_vaccination_event
Immunisations for under 5s will not be available at the pop-up clinic but can be discussed with staff at the event and a plan made with families if they do not have a GP.
