Changes to entrances at SDHB Hospitals

Issue date:

The Southern District Health Board is making some changes to hospital access from 8 February 2022, Tuesday

All patients and visitors entering the hospital will be screened for COVID-19 which will ensure an added layer of protection for our community. We understand that this may add to some extra time when entering the hospital but appreciate the patience and consideration of the public around these changes.

All other entrances, excluding the main doors, will be closed for Dunedin Public Hospital, Wakari Hospital and Southland Hospital.  Lakes District Hospital will have three entrances for access to different services.

Entrances for each site are as follows:

  • Dunedin Public Hospital
Entry through main entrance on Great King Steet

  • Southland Hospital
Entry through main hospital entrance (east entrance)
    West entrance closed
    Separate entry for Ophthalmology

  • Wakari Hospital
Entry through main building front doors
Helensburgh entrance through main front doors
    9C Entrance closed
ISIS access via arrangement with ward

Everyone who enters our hospital will be screened, expected to check in using QR codes (or paper sign in), sanitise hands and wear a surgical mask (available at each entrance).

The public should be prepared to produce an outpatient letter or text when asked.

“These changes will continue to help keep our community safe and limit contact with other patients as much as possible,” says James Goodwin, SDHB Service Improvement Manager.

“If you are unwell, we encourage you to stay home and call Healthline or your GP in the first instance.”
